01/12/25 Mon. This
evening was the official lighting of the Christmas tree in the People's
Park, so we were treated to an impressive firework display. The tree is
around 150 feet high, and about 1.5 km to the north of us, so we have a
fairly good view from the boat.
02/12/25 Tues. The
second of two cruise ships (M/S Westerdam) arrived this morning, they
only stay for 12 hours before leaving for their next port. We spent
most of the day over in the yacht club making the pattern for one of
John's trampolines - that is proving a long job for Ana.
12/12/25 Fri. We went
to the airport this evening to meet Ana's daughter Ella who is staying
with us for a couple of weeks.
14/12/25 Sun. Ana has
done all she can to make John's trampolines and has been waiting for
materials to continue, but deliveries here are very slow. I too have
been waiting weeks for a few things that I ordered online.
19/12/25 Fri. Over on
Rob's boat today to try and fix his generator, it's a Farymann 18W and
refusing to start. A compression test showed 150psi so I removed the
head and lapped the valves. After reassembly, the compression had not
improved, so it has to be the piston rings or the liner itself that is
worn beyond limits. As they are no longer made, getting parts is going
to be very difficult.
24/12/25 Wed. Went
over to the yacht club at 4pm, the yachties had arranged a pot luck meal
for Christmas, we sat with Rob and Tia and I even had a sort of Irish
coffee except it was brandy as no whiskey available.
25/12/25 Thurs.
Merry Christmas everyone!
29/12/25 Mon.
"Norwegian Sun" cruise liner docked for the day.
31/12/25 Wed. The end
of the year is upon us! The Filipinos love to make a lot of noise at
midnight, but they practice some hours beforehand! Unsilenced motorbike
engines are revved up, fireworks are prematurely set off, horns are
blown by all the kids. Thank goodness it's only for one night!
